Marlene Baylis – Managing Director
Marlene began her career in Local Government where she gained a sound grounding in administration and working within the confines of red tape and bureaucracy. In 1995 she decided to go it alone, opening her first retail outlet in a major shopping mall. Within three years, she had a very successful retail business operating 4 shops, all in major shopping malls. 10 years later she sold her business and retired. She was persuaded out of retirement to join MG Associates in 2007 as Practice Manager where she brings her administrative and retail skills as well as her entrepreneurial flair. By managing the ‘back room’ administration, the operational staff are able to concentrate on servicing our clients. She provides clients with an easy point of contact for anyone with problems which need solving. She understands the problems associated with running owner-managed businesses and balancing this with a home life.
Michael Ghersie MBA – Consultant
Michael qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Arthur Young (now Ernst & Young) in the City of London in 1975. He then spent 10 years overseas working first in Investment Banking in the Middle East, before joining Philip Morris as a Marketing Executive promoting the Marlboro brand in the Middle East and Europe. During this time he completed his MBA at the Cranfield School of Management. Since returning to the UK in the mid 1980s he has followed an entrepreneurial career investing in a series of ventures and company buy-outs. During this time he bought into a UK-based manufacturing company where he became Managing Director and developed the Company into the world market leader for its products, exporting over 200 million units per month, mainly to the EC and the Far East. Another company buy-in brought him to Devon in 2000 and he went on to setup MG Associates (MGA) in 2003.
Tiffany Jessop – BA Hons – Client Manager
Tiffany joined MGA in 2012 after achieving a BA Honours in Accounting and Finance, where she reaffirmed her love for numbers. A born and bred Devon girl, she has now developed her own client base, dealing with the delivery of all aspects of tax and accounting, to which she brings a wealth of new and dynamic ideas.
Nikita Preston – Client Manager.
Nikita joined us in November 2015 to continue her training within MAAT, rapidly completing level 3 and she is now studying for her final level, before becoming MAAT qualified. She started her career studying a Business and Finance degree, for which she gained a double distinction merit. She provides us with youthful enthusiasm and is keen on all aspects of media marketing. Always ready with useful help and advice to any client she feels she can support.
Mike Bishop – Client Manager ACPA, MIAB, Cert Acct (Open)
Mike joined MGA in October 2017 bringing many years’ experience in all aspects of accountancy, taxation and bookkeeping. Originally trained in Suffolk and having moved to Devon 35 years ago, he took a few years from accountancy to run his own diverse range of businesses, giving him a unique insight into the real-world needs of business owners and the importance of having timely figures to enable sound business decision making. Returning to full-time accountancy some 15 years ago, Mike has acted for some clients as part-time Finance Director and Advisor to several companies, at the same time as providing all the usual services in accountancy, taxation and bookkeeping required by a modern accountancy practice.
Duncan Scales-BA (Hons) Client Manager
Duncan achieved a BA (Hons) in Accounting and Finance in 2014, He then gained experience as a Finance Officer in a local based firm before joining MGA in the summer of 2017. He is currently working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant under ACCA and he hopes to gain this status within the next two years. Duncan has lived in the Salcombe area and has local connections giving him a good understanding of the needs of businesses in the area. Duncan is an approachable, knowledgeable and proficient accountant who emphasises the importance of maintaining strong relationships with his clients.
Lisa Jeffrey-MAAT Client Manager
Lisa is currently a full member of the Association of Accounting Technicians having gained the qualification in 2014.
Throughout her career Lisa has gained considerable expertise in dealing with a wide variety of people and situations with excellent organisational and administrative skills. Lisa came to us after working for the last 10 and half years for a manufacturing firm dealing with all aspects financial. Lisa joined us looking for a new challenge wishing to broaden her knowledge and skills within the accounting sector.
